The Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis were delivered by Freud during the First World War.

Never before, in the course of thirty years of lecturing at the University of Vienna, had he deliberately set down, with a view to publication, the full range of his theories and observations. This series, therefore, represents a stock-taking of psychoanalysis as it stood after the secession of Adler and Jung.

In common with the majority of profound thinkers, Freud commanded an exceptionally simple and readable style of exposition: his conclusions about the unconscious mind, about dreams, phantasies, anxiety, symbolism, perversions, infantile sexuality and other aspects of psychoanalysis are summarized here with a telling and easy elegance.
